Chandigarh, April 1, 2016: Mr.V.K.Singh Chief Electoral Officer Punjab today met the representatives of different political parties of Punjab and sought the suggestions from them before making changes in the polling stations as per the needs of the people.
Addressing the representatives of, Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, CPI(M) SAD and BSP, Mr. Singh said that the ECI has already approved the programme of Rationalization of Polling stations in Punjab and detailed physical verification to be verified, basic minimum facilities and other aspects required for the polling stations has already been carried out. Various suggestions received in this regard would be discussed so as to incorporate these suggestions in keeping with the guidelines and the basic minimum facilities to be provided in the polling stations. New polling station would be set up, if the number of electors is more than 1200 in rural area and 1400 in urban area. All basic minimum facilities would be available in the polling station building like as electric connection, ramps, toilet, drinking water, shed to shelter the voters, telephone connection etc. Polling station building would be within the polling area, he added.
To prepare an error free, purified and authenticated Electoral Roll, Mr. Singh said that the BLOs have been directed to hold a door to door survey on April 4 to May 4 to verify the particulars and photographs of the electors. He also said that the entries correspond to names of deceased persons, duplicate entries and entries of those who have migrated to other places would be cross checked before final deletion of their votes would taken up during this period. He also said that all youth turned 18 years of age ion January 1, 2016 could also enroll as a voter.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Manjeet Singh Narang was also present in the meeting besides other officers of the Chief Electoral Office.
