Ludhiana, August 1, 2014: State Bank of Patiala is a 97 years old Bank catering banking needs of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh , cannot be allowed to be merged only for “Reputable Position of SBI in global Banking System and remain relevant in the emerging economic scenario. We are preparing for its centenary celebrations they are bent upon eliminating our beloved institution, said Com.S.K.Gautam, Joint Secretary, AIBEA & General Secretary, All India State Bank of Patiala Employees’ Federation while reacting to the statement given by S A Ramesh Rangan, Managing Director, State Bank of Patiala.
In a statement here on Friday, he further stated that their Organisation under the banner of AIBEA is totally opposed to the proposed decision of merger of Associate Banks in SBI and other PSBs. According to him this merger is aimed to eliminate public sector banks in the name of ‘Mega Banks’ which shall be further privatised and foreignised through disinvestment and FDI. AIBEA General Council is meeting on August 3 and 4 at Kolkata to take further steps to fight out the move of merger. State Bank of Patiala is only bank having its Head Office in Punjab State and have emotional attachment of the people of this region.
He said “we are preparing for grim struggles to stall this move of merger. We are launching an awakening campaign to share with them the harms of merger of SBP to the people of this region. The Government should take stringent steps to recover NPA instead of merger of Public Sector Banks.”
