Agricultural workshop of CPA to be held from Oct 29 to 31

Chandigarh, October 27, 2014: An Agricultural Workshop in association with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, United Kingdon, London is being organised by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from October 29 to 31, 2014. It is a matter of great honour for India and especially Punjab. This was disclosed by a spokesman of Punjab Vishan Sabha here today.
Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is a group of 54 member countries and India is an integral part of this group. All the legislatures of the countries form different branches of this group.
The Headquarters of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association are located in London (U.K.) and is called Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Secretariat (CPA Secretariat) and its main functions are as under:
To further propagate the aims and aspects and working of Parliamentary Democracy, Constitutional and legislative functions,and improve the economic, social and cultural conditions of the member countries; and
To arrange CPA Conferences, Seminars, Meetings, Interactions Workshops, Study Groups between Member countries and to publish relevant publications in this regard to further enhance the knowledge of parliamentary practices andprocedures.
The present Workshop being organized by CPA is of Asia, South East Asia and India Region. Delegates from the member branches of CPA of South East and Asia region i.e. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, Malaysia and Zimbabwe are participating in this Workshop. All the delegates shall be arriving by 28th of October and shall be departing by 01st November, 2014.
Speaker, Lok Sabha, has very kindly consented to deliver the inaugural address of the Workshop in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Hall on 29th October at 10.00 AM. On this occasion, Chief Minister, Punjab, Chief Minister, Haryana, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab and Speakers from other States of the country and Parliamentarians would be taking part in the Workshop. Members from Punjab Vidhan Sabha will also be present on the occasion.
There is an important role of Legislature in the Democratic system. Legislature scrutinizes the activities of the Administration through different Parliamentary Committees. In the Indian Legislature System, there is an effective Committee System and there are departmentally related Standing Committees also to scrutinize the working of the different departments. They are constituted separately for each department. These committees scrutinize the budget as well as general working of the departments.
In this workshop, deliberations would be held regarding the Agricultural Committees of all the Member branches and this workshop is being organized mainly to consider the subject of Agriculture.
Apart from the members, experts in the field of Agriculture such as Resource Persons, Professors, Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities shall are invited for giving their suggestions and participating in the Workshop. They shall be rendering their valuable suggestions in the field of problems being faced in the field of agriculture and regarding the current activities, achievements and requirements.
In the three days of workshop, there shall be nine sessions. There are a total of six subjects/topics. Apart from it, delegates from the Member countries shall also be presenting their papers on the subject.
After inauguration of the Workshop in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Hall, the discussion on the subjects/topics shall be held at The Hotel Lalit, IT Park, Chandigarh.
On the last day of the Session (October 31), after the completion of the Session, a local sightseeing visit has been arranged and the delegates shall be departing in the evening of 31st October or 1st November.
