150 Bangaloreans came forward to support Fortis Hospitals’- A Walk for Arthritis and Osteoporosis
Fortis Cunningham Road conducted the walkathon along with Sankey Tank Club on the occasion of World Arthritis Day and World Osteoporosis Day Bangalore, October 28,2018: Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road in association with Sankey Tank walker hosted a Walkathon to spread awareness about Arthritis and Osteoporosis, over 150 people actively came forward to participate and support the cause. The walk flagged off at 7:00am by Dr Ashwath Narayan, MLA- Malleswaram from Sankey Tank Park and the group returned to the starting point covering a total distance of 2 Km. The main aim of the initiative was to promote healthy and active routine among the citizens. Dr Jayateerth Kulkarni, Consultant- Orthopaedic Surgery-Fortis Hospitals, Cunningham road, said, “With such initiatives we aim to spread awareness among people about arthritis and osteoporosis, and also try to encourage them to involve themselves in some kind of physical activity which would be helpful for them in the long run. Along with early diagnosis, people should undertake preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing arthritis. Joints get lubrication and nutrition with every movement, thus it is important to promote the habit of walking in order to keep our bones and joints healthy”. Arthritis affects more than 180 million people in India - prevalence higher than many well-known diseases such as diabetes, AIDS and cancer. Around 14% of the Indian population seeks a doctor's help every year for this joint disease.
