108.82 lakh tonnes wheat procured in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 9, 2014: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 108.82 lakh tonnes of wheat till last evening.
According to an official spokesman,  out of total procurement of 108.82 lakh tonnes of wheat Government agencies procured 97.7% till date whereas private traders procured 2.3% of wheat. Till May 08, PUNGRAIN had procured 19.73 lakh tonnes (18.1%) whereas  MARKFED procured 24.05 lakh tonnes (22.1%). PUNSUP procured 22.62 lakh tonnes (20.8%), PSWC procured 12.31 lakh tonnes (11.3%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 10.70 lakh tonnes    (9.8 %) of wheat.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 16.85 lakh tonnes of wheat which was the 15.5% of the total procurement of wheat in the state.
The spokesman added that district Sangrur with 9.46 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district Ludhiana with  7.94 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and District Patiala with 7.78 lakh  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
