Ludhiana, December 9, 2017: Department of Dietetics along with Department of Cardiology and Medicine of DMCH, Ludhiana today organised 3rd CNE on ‘Good Diet for Health Heart’.

The CNE was inaugurated by Principal Dr Sandeep Puri along with Vice-Principal and Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Supdt Dr Sandeep Sharma and Assistant Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal.

In his address, Principal Dr Sandeep Puri said that nutrition is a baseline for our body, as it plays a very important role in achieving overall health. As we all know that Heart is one of the major body organs and plays a vital role. He told us that the risk of cardiovascular disease is increasing day by day and obesity is baseline of all the diseases. So regular health check-up, maintaining proper body weight an eating healthy can help people to live healthy and active life.

Vice-Principal and Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander addressed the audience about the hyperlipidemia and how it affects the heart. He continued saying that the elevated levels of lipid profile, high blood pressure, obesity, alcohol intake and use of drugs can increase the chances for cardiovascular diseases.

Dean Academics and Organizing Chairman-Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina said that fibre plays an important role to maintain your body weight and keeping your heart healthy. Fiber is one such nutrient which is mostly ignored by people but it is fiber which helps us in number of ways such as in the cardiovascular diseases it lowers the cholesterol, in diabetes helps to maintain the sugar levels and improve digestion. He further added we should always look for the natural foods which are rich in fiber such as whole cereal an pulses, fruits and vegetables etc rather than pills, powders etc

According to In-charge, Department of Dietetics & Organizing Secretary of the CNE Dt. Shaveta Batta added, “Little modification in lifestyle can help to maintain the healthy heart. Nutrition is a key to overall good health and proper nutrition is important is important for all of us to look better, think better and perform better. She further added that Lifestyle modifications includes mantain your body weight, eating limited foods with having high saturated fatty acids and trans fats,limiting sodium in diet, at least 30 minutes of physical activity and diet rich in fiber. Approximately 200 delegates from all over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh attended the CNE programme.
