Punjab CM for 100% toilets facility in all government schools by March 2015
Chandigarh, November 18, 2014: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed the senior officers of the state Government to achieve 100% target of providing separate toilets for Boys and Girls in various Government Schools of the state by the end of March 2015.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's office said that Badal was presiding over a high level meeting in this regard here at his office today. The Chief Minister directed all the concerned officers to expedite the process of construction of new and repair of de-functional toilets in the government schools of the state by giving it utmost priority.
The Chief Minister also approved the plan of about Rs. 20 crore for this purpose and urged all the Members of the Parliament (MPs) of Punjab to contribute Rs. 50 Lac each from their local area development (MPLAD) fund for the Government Schools in their respective constituency. The rest of the amount would be contributed by the state Government, added Badal.
The Chief Minister was apprised by the Education Department that at present only 1288 state schools (743 Boys' and  545 Girls') were left without toilets and 2256 toilets were non-functional.
Prominent amongst those were present in the meeting included Education Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Principal Secretary School Education C. Roul, Special Principal Secretaries of the CM   Gaggandip Sing Brar and Ajoy Sharma and DGSE GK Singh.
