WORK ON RETROFITTING OF SARABHA NAGAR MARKET & UPGRADATION OF MALHAR ROAD AS “SMART ROAD” STARTS

CABINET MINISTER BHARAT BHUSHAN ASHU & MP RAVNEET SINGH BITTU INAUGURATED THE START OF CONSTRUCTION WORK TOTAL ESTIMATED COST OF COMBINED PROJECT RS 38.62 CRORE: BHARAT BHUSHAN ASHU Ludhiana, March 2, 2019: The work on the retrofitting of Sarabha Nagar market and upgradation of Malhar Road started today. The start of work was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Punjab Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Member of Parliament Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu, in the presence of several others during a function held at Sarabha Nagar market today. The total estimated cost of this combined project is around Rs 38.62 crore. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, MC Commissioner Kanwal Preet Kaur Brar, Councillor Mamta Ashu, besides several others. While speaking on the occasion, Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu stated that the proposed project aligns with the overall goal for Smart City Ludhiana including the creation of better places for people in the city achieved by working on the objectives of landscaping of public open space to revitalise them as Urban public interactive & gathering place, improve quality of life by infrastructure upgradation, clean & safe environment and a provision of smart features and amenities/facilities for public. The selected Malhar road area lies within the Smart City Area Based Development boundary, within Zone D and Ward number 56 as per the Ludhiana Administration boundaries. The stretch of the road between Ferozepur Road Chowk and Hero Bakery Chowk measures 1.13 km. While providing information regarding the upgradation of Malhar Road as Smart Road, Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu informed that the project would include geometry improvement of road alignment and road intersections, designed parking spaces for two wheelers and four wheelers, dedicated cycle track and pedestrian pathway on both sides of road to provide safe and secure walking environment, landscaping along entire stretch of road, provision of smart features and amenities/facilities for public and to improve and upgrade road infrastructure for clean & safe environment.
