Winter Glory 2015 at HMV

Jalandhar, January 16, 2015: The PG Department of Botany of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Winter Glory 2015. 

On this occasion, a flower show was organised by the department and many students participated enthusiastically in the show.  The Chief Guest of the occasion was Minister of State Vijay Sampla. 

Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj welcomed the minister.

Vijay Sampla encouraged the students to plant more trees and to work hard.  Principal Dr. Bhardwaj told that Botanical Garden was established in the year 1972 in the college, covering an area of 5500 sq.mtr.  It is one of the biggest botanical garden among the colleges of north India.  There is a collection of 550 plants, 230 species including ornamental and medicinal plants like Harar, Bahna, Amla, Bael, Tulsi, Ashwagandha, Aloe Vera, Gloe, Neem etc.  It also has rare species like Ginkgo Biloba and Agothis.  She told that recently a new attraction was added in it i.e. Gulab Vatika with large number of rose species with different colours and sizes.  An upgradation of lily pond and seasonal flowers section was also done.

In Winter Glory 2015, beautiful flowers like Bird of Paradise, Lillies, Rose, Marigold, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia were exhibited.  Head of Botany Department Dr. Meena Sharma explained the importance of plants in our daily life.  Flora group i.e. Vanita, Diksha and Ashima got first prize, Monika and Megha from B.Sc.III and Dr. Nidhi Kochhar got 2nd prize, Shikha and Jyoti from M.Sc. Botany II and Amanpreet from B.Sc.III got 3rd prize in flower show. 

Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Shaweta Chauhan, Dr. Nitika, Ramandeep, Kanchan, Harpreet Kaur, Amneet Kaur and Sonia were also present on this occasion.
