VVPAT electronic voting machines will be used in Himachal Vidhan Sabha election: Election Commission

Dharamshala, September 7, 2017: A meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of the Himachal was held at Shimla today in view of ensuing Vidhan Sabha election in the state slated for this year end. The meeting was organised to sensitise the officers on latest election processes and election management.
Senior Deputy Chief Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India Shri Umesh Sinha said , “VVPAT electronic voting machines will be used in the ensuing Vidhan Sabha election in the state. It will further enhance transparency in the system. The election will witness optimum use of latest information technology in election management and for effective coordination in all aspects of election processes.”
Ion a press release issued here today it is said that Mr.Sinha said that role of media is important for fair and transparent elections. He asked District Election Officers to regularly communicate with media so as to disseminate relevant information to public. “Social media will also be used for election management and to disseminate information to electorate,” he added .He asked officers to remain in regular communication with political parties for their active participation in all aspects of election process.
Deputy Election Commissioner Shri Sandeep Saxena disclosed that special campaign will be launched in the state from 16 to 30 September to include all eligible persons in the electoral roll. He asked District Election Officers to regularly hold review meetings with officers regarding election management for smooth conduct of election.
Chief Electoral Officer of Himachal Pradesh Shri Pushpender Rajpoot, All DCs, SPs, Nodal Officers of different departments were also present in the meeting.
