Dharamshala, October 15, 2019: The former Himachal Minister and President Indian Ex-service League Maj Vijay Singh Mankotia (Retd) said that the Tibetan Religious Leader The Dalai Lama is the most deserving person for the Mahatma Gandhi Int'l Peace Prize and same recognition is long overdue.
He has dispatched a letter to the Indian Prime Minister Mr Narender Modi urging him to consider conferring upon the living saint and a prophet of peace, The International Gandhi Peace Prize, which is more befitting in the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
In his letter, he said that earlier too he (Mankotia) demanded Bharat Ratna for HH The Dalai Lama, and don’t know why the demand was not accepted by the Government of India.
Mentioning the scraping of Article 370, Mankotia said, “I know fully well that you have courage to correct that, which over the years no one dared to.” He added in his letter to PM by saying the it is only under the leadership of Modi can hounor The Dalai Lama with such an award to honour a saint who is bringing Indians and the rest of the world closer to Mahatma Gandhi and Gandhi’s philosophy of Ahimsa(non-violence), Shanti (peace)and Sangati(Harmony).
While addressing a press conference of Indian and Tibetan Media in Dharamshala, Mankotia said, “As PM is coming Dharamshala on 7th November to inaugurate Global Investor Meet, It shall be appropriate time and place to confer this recognition to Dalai Lama at his second home, Dharamshala and make announcement in this regard before coming to Dharamshala. Dharamshala has attained fame worldwide, due to Dalai Lama’s stay here since 1960.”
Mankotia said that the copies of this request letter has been sent to Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
