VIGILANCE nabs four officials in bribery cases

Chandigarh, March 4, 2013: State Vigilance Bureau has arrested one gazetted officer and three non-gazetted officials alongwith two private persons red handed in three different corruption cases and was able to secure the convictions of one officer, three officials and two private persons in three different prosecution cases contested by the Bureau in the last month.

Disclosing this here today, Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the State. In this direction, the Vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State. Adding further he said that the Bureau has also registered a criminal case and five Vigilance enquiries against suspect corrupt officials to probe into the alleged allegations.

He added that during the last month of February, the Vigilance had nabbed Bhola Singh Brar District Mining Officer-cum-General Manager District Industries Centre Mohali alongwith his relative Surinder Singh and BLEO Mohali Amarinder Singh accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a Tipper owner used to ferry sand gravel. In another case Satpal Singh Patwari of Dugri, Ludhiana, Maniraj Mohan and Manjinder Singh Phillour have also been caught red handed accepting bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant for registration of Fard of his land. Dalbir Singh Head-constable posted as reader to DSP Mohali was also nabbed for accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.

The Vigilance Chief added that during the month of February the special courts have sentenced one officer, three officials and two private persons in three different prosecution cases after finding them guilty. The accused Shashi Kumar Chadha, PCS, LAO Amritsar was sentenced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Amritsar for two years imprisonment alongwith fine of Rs. 5,000. Amamndeep Singh Clerk Government High School Dina, Navtej Singh Clerk Government Senior Secondary School Droli Bhai and Mahajit Singh Clerk Government Senior Secondary School Bhaike in Moga District have been imprisoned for five years each fined for Rs. 5,000 each. In another case Darshan Pal Garg and Megh Raj Garg both owners of M/s Kalwanu Rice Mill Bhunarheri, Patiala have also been sentenced for two years each.
