Chandigarh, November 22, 2014: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today asserted that Punjab's traditional game Kabbadi will become popular similar to cricket in the coming years as he has proved its acknowledgment world over by hosting world Kabbadi cups since four years. During the World Kabbadi League final match United Kings becomes WKL champion by defeating Khalsa Warriors with 02 points and scored 58 points.
Addressing the gathering at Wave World Kabbadi League final match at SAS Nagar here late night Badal said that Punjab Government was hosting Kabbadi world cups since four years and sixteen nations were playing this traditional game. He asserted that Kabbadi league is attracting more spectators than other sports leagues being organised in India.
Highlighting the initiatives taken by Punjab government to promote sports, Badal said that Punjab is the first state in the country to create sports fund. He said that Punjab was spending Rs. 80 to 90 crores per year to develop sports infrastructure and contemplating to increase this budget to more than Rs 100 crores from next year. Deputy Chief Minister exhorted to promote mother game kabbadi overseas and said fifth world cup kabbadi would be organised from December 6 in which twelve countries will take part.
Among others present on the occasion included Sohan Singh Thandal Jails and Cultural Affairs Minister, Pargat Singh MLA, R.K. Jaiswal DIG, Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu Deputy Commissioner.
