Jalandhar, February 28, 2015: Lyallpur Khalsa College, the premier educational Institute of North India organised National Science carnival on February 27-28.

Various Department of Sciences i.e. P.G.Department of Physics, P.G.Department of Chemistry, Department of Botany & Zoology and Department of Environmental Sciences organised various competitions like power point presentation, poster making and quiz contest which were held on Friday.

Professor R.K.Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar inaugurated the National Science Carnival and delivered key note address to encourage students towards research in science and technology. He inspired the students to opt for various INSPIRE Programs and scholarships for UG, PG and Ph.D programs. The participants from different colleges of Punjab participated in National Science carnival 2015. Power point presentations were delivered on the themes like Innovations of Science & Technology, Indian Space Programs, Role of Science for Human Welfare, Antioxidants for better & prolonged life, Bio printing and Super Bacteria: their concern for future effectiveness of antibiotics. Winners of power point presentation are as under:

 1. Manpreet Kaur from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar on the topic Indian Space Program.

2. Kunind Singh Saini from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar on the topic Innovations of Science & Technology shared his prize with Gursimran Kaur from H. M. V. College, Jalandhar on the topic Antioxidants

3.  Lakhvir Kaur from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar on the topic Large Hardon Collider

Poster making competitions were held on the themes of Eco-friendly sources of energy, save environment, Green chemistry, Applications of Nano-Science, Environment Hazards & Waste management, Innovation in food packaging etc. Winner of poster making competitions were

1.       Jasmine & Neha Dhiman from Kamla Nehru College, Phagwara

2.       Radhika & Arpinder Kaur from Kamla Nehru College, Phagwara shared with Deepali & Surabhy from KMV College Jalandhar

3.       Deeksha & Mandeep Kaur from HMV College Jalandhar shared their prize with Ashish & Bhanu Priya from LKC Jalandhar

Quiz competition was organised on the topics of General Science, Scientific discoveries and latest developments in Science. Total 18 teams participated in this event in which 5 teams were screened for final. The winner teams of Quiz competition are

1.       Team-C, Doaba College, Jalandhar.

2.       Team-B, K.M.V. College, Jalandhar

3.       Team-A and Team-E from HMV College, Jalandhar.

Principal, Dr. G .S. Samra congratulated the Departments to organize the National Science carnival and suggested to make it routine feature of college activities every year. Dr. Samra encouraged the young generation to develop the scientific attitude and to make them aware of the role of science and technology in our life and motivated the students to participate in all such science related activities in future. He formally delivered welcome address and floral welcome to chief guest. Teams from various colleges participated in model making competitions on 28-02 -2015. The prize winners of the model making competitions were:

1.       Rashmi Kwatra & Ramandeep Kaur from HMV College, Jalandhar

2.       2nd is shared by two teams; Abhilasha & Priya Nischal from HMV Jalandhar and Karanjit & Anmol Sharma from Doaba College Jalandhar

3.       Rajni, Arwinder and Priyanka from LKC Jalandhar

Dr. Neelam Gulati Sharma, Director, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. Chandigarh was the chief Guest on Saturday. She delivered a motivational seminar about scope and Importance of Basic Sciences. She encouraged the students to adopt science programmes, to lay stress on retaining moral values of life. She asked the participants to proceed for various research programmes and gave away prizes to the prize winners. Convenor of the National Science Carnival delivered vote of thanks.
