Tribute to literary critic and linguist Prof Namvar Singh
Chandigarh, March 1, 2019: Department of Hindi, Panjab University today paid tribute to the literary critic and linguist Prof.Namvar Singh who passed away last month. An academician and theoretician, Prof.Namvar Singh was a Sahitya Akademi awardee and was best known for his literary criticism, wit and insight. Besides his academic engagements Prof Singh also worked as an editor for a news magazine and authored several books. Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Dept. of Hindi, informed that the event organized by ‘Kahi Ankhai’ the literary exchange forum of Dept. of Hindi and Dr. Pankaj Malviya, Chairperson, Dept of Russian Studies, Panjab University, chaired the session. The commemorative program saw presentations and screening of a short film on life and works of Namavar Singh. Prof. Ranvir Singh from Dept cum National Centre for Human Genome Studies and Research, PU was the special guest on the occasion. He spoke to the students about various dimensions of literature and science. Naveen Kumar Neeraj (research scholar from Dept.) spoke on the life and works of Namvar Singh and Brajpal (research scholar from dept.) spoke on the works of Namvar Singh with special reference to his expertise in literary criticism. The program was anchored by Suambada Kumari, research scholar of the Department. The program concluded with certificate distribution. Prof. Satyapal Sehgal and Dr. Gurmeet Singh attended the event.
