Training Course For Kangra Farmers Begins At PAU

A five-day training course on “Production and Post-Harvest Management of Fruit, Vegetable and Flower crops” began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The farmers of district Kangra, Himachal Pradesh are participating in the training course.
 
Giving details, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Directorate of Extension Education and the Course Director, said the trainees would be apprised of the scope of horticultural crops; improved technologies for cultivation of litchi and mango; nursery raising of citrus fruits; improved propagation practices for fruit plants; successful cultivation of fig, sapota and guava; post-harvest handling of fruits; and management of nutritional deficiencies in fruit crops. Dr Sidhu further said that the experts would also provide knowledge on apiculture as a subsidiary occupation; and biogas plant- a resource conservation technique. Besides, PAU experts would delve on the scope of vegetables and floriculture in crop diversification; cultivation of garlic and peas; cultivation of tomato in net and poly houses; cultivation of vegetables in low tunnels; mushroom growing and organic farming, he said. Apart from this, trainees would visit BISA, Ladhowal, Ludhiana; and Punjab Horticultural Post-Harvest Technology Centre (PHPTC) for practical exposure.
