Chandigarh, December 2, 2015: Panjab University (PU), Dean of Faculty of Sciences and Chairperson, Department of Geology, Professor Naresh Tuli passed away at 2 AM today morning.
Vice Chancellor, Prof Arun Kumar Grover, Dean University Instructions (DUI), Prof AK Bhandari, Registrar, Col. GS Chadha (Retd.), Dean Students Welfare, Prof Navdeep Goyal, faculty, non-teaching staff and students paid homage to the departed soul. Large number of PU officers, faculty, non-teaching staff and students attended the condolence meeting at PU Law Auditorium.
Paying rich tributes on behalf of University teachers, students and staff members, Prof Grover said, “In his sad demise, we have lost a noble human being, who made rich contributions to the growth of the values in the society. No words can describe his contribution to the society.” May the Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, he added.
Professor Naresh Tuli was born on September, 24 1956. He joined the Department of Geology as a B.Sc. (Hons. School) student in 1974. After completing his education, he subsequently joined the Department of Geology as Lecturer in 1988. He became Professor
in the Department on 1st July 2007. He assumed the charge of Chairman of the Department on 3rd April, 2015. He was elected Dean, Faculty of Science, PU for the term February 1st, 2015 to January 31, 2016.
Prof Tuli was a member of NWG of IGCP-571, a CSIR fellowship holder and a UGC Merit Scholarship holder. He was Jt. Secretary, Indian Geologist’ Association, Chandigarh. He was nominated as an External expert to Board of Studies (UG) Geology of H.P.University, Shimla.
Prof Tuli had a vast experience. He have been on the panel of subject experts of U.P.S.C., Delhi, P.P.S.C., Patiala and R.P.S.C., Ajmer and was a consultant for several Hydroelectric Projects, viz., Sutlej Jal Vidyat Nigam, Zakhri, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd., Reckongpeo, Central Water Commission, Jammu and DCM Engineering Works, Ropar.
Prof Tuli guided 5 doctorate students, published 25 research papers, presented 40 papers in conferences and handled 3 projects funded by DST and UGC as well provided intellectual consultancies in the form of 25 short reports and 1 full project report. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
