TRAINING COURSE ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES CONCLUDES AT PAU

Ludhiana, June 16, 2017: A two-day training course on “Latest Production and Post-Harvest Techniques for Handling Fruits and Vegetables” concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The horticulture development officers, district extension specialists and scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras participated in the course, conducted by the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU.

Dr G.S.Buttar, Additional Director of Extension Education, said the fruit science experts educated the trainees about the current status and future prospects of fruit cultivation in Punjab; latest production technologies and research priorities for citrus cultivation; production technologies for higher yield and quality fruit production of temperate fruits; and techniques for high quality fruit plant nursery production with special reference to new interventions. The trainees were also acquainted with the recent technologies for guava production in the state; technologies for quality fruit production in mango and litchi, new techniques for disease management in fruit crops; latest pest management technologies for fruit crops; and technologies for enhancing shelf life of fruit crops, he added. The vegetable science experts dwelt on the scope of vegetable cultivation in Punjab and production techniques in onion, garlic, tomato, capsicum, chilli, peas, cucumber, mushroom and potato, he informed. In addition, they shed light on hybrid seed production, processing and storage of vegetable seeds; and post-harvest handling and processing of vegetable crops, he added. Farm experts, Dr J.S. Brar and Dr Dilbagh Singh were the technical coordinators while Dr T.S. Riar and Dr Kulvir Kaur were the course coordinators.
