Toy exhibition aims to fulfil needs of Indian children

New Delhi, July 18 (IANS) The 8th business-to-business Toy Biz International kicked off Friday with its organisers stressing they are not competing with Chinese toys, but looking at alternatives to strengthen the industry and provide better quality toys to children.

The four-day annual event, organised by the Toy Association of India (TAI), is taking place at Pragati Maidan. Around 100 toy manufactures from different parts of India and abroad are participating in the exhibition which will go on till July 21.

"We are not here to compete with Chinese toys. Our main aim is to fulfill the needs of Indian children to create toys for that can be used for better development and education," said TAI president Raj Kumar.

"The demands, taste and preferences of children are changing with changing technology and our main aim is to manufacture need-based toys for Indian children," he added.

Through this platform, they are also hoping to reach out to newer markets and generate business.

"As labour is getting costlier in China, Europeans and American toy manufacturers are looking for alternative destinations, and they are finding India as a perfect destination that offers cheap labour and good infrastructure," said Raj Kumar.

"Indian manufacturers are following all safety norms which are globally acceptable," he added.
