Three week long Refresher course on Basic and Applied Science begins at PU

CEO, Centre for Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Mohali, Dr. R.S. Sangwan with the participants at Refresher Course on Basic and Applied Science at Panjab University on May 26. The Refresher Course is being organized at BMS Block, Sector 25, PU on behalf of Human Resource Development Center, PU. The course started today and would continue till June 15, 2016.

Chandigarh, May 26, 2016: A 21-day Refresher course for college and university teachers started at the Department of Biochemistry on behalf of UGC Human Development Resource Centre (UGC-HRDC) of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. The theme of the Course is “Basic and Applied Science”.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. R.S. Sangwan, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Mohali said that advancement in both basic science and applied science are necessary for development of the country. He stressed upon the need for imparting and updating quality education through refresher courses so that students can ultimately be benefited. He also emphasized on the importance of interdisciplinary nature of the course and said that need of the hour is have such courses as it opens new vistas for collaborations.

Dr. Sabyasachi Rakshit from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali shared with the participants about the applications of physical and molecular approaches in understanding biological phenomena. The third resource person Prof. Suresh K Sharma from Department of Statistics explained the participants to how to apply statistical tools in their research work.
Course Coordinator Prof. Rajat Sandhir said a total of 40 participants from many parts of the country are taking part in the course, which is aimed at updating the recent developments in the field. During the three-week course the participants would also be given hands on training and visit to institutions in the knowledge. The three week program would have interaction with over 60 recourse persons drawn from different disciplines in science and industry.
