Ludhiana, March 5, 2013: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari today sought setting up of a special trauma centre at the Civil Hospital Ludhiana which could work as an outstation centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi.

In a letter written to the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Tewari said, Ludhiana is the biggest city in the north with a population of over thirty lakhs. He said, although there are private medical facilities in the city, but there is no specialized facility in the government Civil Hospital, for the common people who cannot afford the private medical facilities.

The Minister, who represents Ludhiana parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha pointed out, since not everybody can afford to go to the private hospitals it was important to improve the facility in the government run Civil Hospital so that people can get treatment at affordable prices.

Tewari suggested that the union health ministry could set up a specialised trauma centre in the Ludhiana Civil Hospital which could work as an outreach centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as has been done for some other places.
