TEWARI lauds Chakkar initiative of integrated village development; announces Rs 20 lakh grant

Chakkar (Ludhiana), July 22, 2013: Impressed with the initiative of some NRIs in village Chakkar in Jagaraon wherein a village pond has been converted into an artificial lake and a modern sports academy has been set up by the villagers by mobilising own resources with the help of some NRIs (from the village), the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari has suggested people from other to take similar initiatives for the overall development of the villages.

He also announced a special grant of Rs 20 lakhs for the Chakkar pond from his MP local area development fund saying that other villages should also follow the suit.

Tewari visited Chakkar village on Sunday and was impressed with the initiative of the two NRI brothers from the village who had set an example for others. He said, not only has this project addressed the drainage and sewerage problems of the village but has also helped in harvesting the rain water.

The Minister said, since an MP has limited amount of money at his disposal under the MPLAD fund, still whatever he can do he will ensure to get it done. He announced that for similar initiatives he will provide between Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakhs from the MPLAD fund for the integrated development of the village.

He lauded the contribution of the NRI brothers who had spent about Rs 8 crores in Chakkar village. He hoped that people with available means and resources can help in similar initiatives at other places for the integrated development of the village.
