Bengaluru, January 18, 2017: Tesco Bengaluru, the technology and retail operations team for Tesco worldwide, celebrated 13 years of operations on January 16th by hosting the annual Foundation Day on its 15-acre campus. The day recognized the center’s journey since 2004 as one of the first international retailers to set-up a dedicated shared service team that serves millions of customers and over 4,76,000 colleagues worldwide.

Over the years, the centre has built deep expertise and breadth in domains including technology, business operations, finance services, commercial & supply chain and property services.

Tesco Bengaluru nurtures colleagues to serve its shoppers a little better every day through a host of initiatives that encourages learning and development. Creating an environment where all our colleagues can be their very best every day is at the heart of everything we do. From driving cultural change and looking at how we reward and recognise colleagues, to building the skills needed to deliver our business objectives, we offer lots of opportunities to make a difference.

Tesco Bengaluru has extensively invested in learning and development initiatives. It is one of the few organisations that launched a specialised online Retail Certification Programme to upskill colleagues. Focused on improving awareness about diversity and inclusion at the workplace, policy enhancements and wellness programmes, Tesco Bengaluru has also enhanced their Maternity and Paternity leave policies much before the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill has been slated to be passed by the Lok Sabha.

Speaking about the Foundation Day, Mr. Glen Attewell, CEO of Tesco Bengaluru said, “It’s an ongoing journey of making Tesco an even better place to work. We are investing in a complete revamp of the facilities in our offices for the convenience of our colleagues which include innovative and agile workspaces, a new sports facility, a gymnasium and the on-campus Star Bazaar.” The on-campus Star Bazaar – a joint venture with Trent Ltd, part of the Tata group provides a realistic experience for colleagues, directly connecting them with the work they do. “The new spaces enhance Tesco’s ‘one-team’ culture and we believe that creating the right environment for colleagues will support them to work smarter, engage more with each other, and deliver outcomes that make us successful as an organisation”, he said.

Ms. Krity Sharma, Head - People commented, “We believe that looking after our colleagues in a culture of trust and respect is essential to the success of the organisation. By paving the way for a more conversational style of working, the organisation is intently listening to and acting on feedback that leads to great performances every day. We have also created an inclusive ecosystem where colleagues can be their best and contribute to their fullest potential.”

Apart from the sabbaticals, education loans and health insurances, this year Tesco Bengaluru is encouraging colleagues to lead healthy and more active lives through their health and wellness initiatives. On-site health check-ups, dental camps, discount offerings for colleagues, aerobic sessions, dance classes, and sports events are also organised on the campus from time-to-time.
