Hyderabad, July 8, 2017: The Telangana State Open Sailing Championships to begin from tomorrow at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad and will continue till 12th July.

The Telangana State Sailing Championship Regatta is to be organised by the Telangana Sailing Association(TSA). It the official State Championship. TSA is a recognized body. It is recognized by both the Olympic Association of Telangana and the Yachting Association of India.

The Telangana State Open Sailing Championships are organised in association with Telangana Tourism and Enerzal.

The Championships is open and has already attracted more than 50 sailors from across the country especially from Chennai, Mumbai being the coastal cities and the Bhopal being the lake city. The notable strength is coming from Tamil Nadu.

The Trophies are both at the State and Open levels. There will be three categories Junior, Youth and Senior.

"We are proud to host the second Telangana State Open Sailing Championships with more entries coming this year. This record participation makes all categories extremely competitive", said Lt. Gen K.S Rao, President of the Telangana Sailing Association in a press note issued in city today.

Koteshwar Rao of Telangana will be the sailor to watch especially after he won a silver medal at the Hyderabad Sailing Week. Local lad Goutham Kankatla who was the State Sub Junior Champion in 2016 will participate in the Junior Category along with Masti Saibaba. Both these sailors are the favourites to hit the podium in the State championship.

Madhya Pradesh with Ram Milan Yadav and Aniketh Rajaram of Tamilnadu deplayed super form at the Hyderabad Sailing Week are all set to grab the Open Junior Category Trophy unless the local lads upset them with their superior performance.

In the Youth Category, Tanishq Desai of Telangana and Sister Juhi Desai are the favorites to win the State medals while the Open is anybody’s guess. Both Tanishq and Juhi won the Junior State Championships last year while Tanishq moveed on to the Youth Category and Juhi to Junior from Sub Junior.

As always, the largest contingents are going to be from Army and Navy. Sailing sport is always supported by these forces in great measure. But, the trend is changing surely but gradually as civilian and State organizations are growing fast especially Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

The weather is expected to be typical Monsoon conditions with strong winds and waves.
