Chandigarh, February 7, 2015: University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU) organised a One-Day Symposium on the theme “Emerging Trends in Pharmaceutical Sciences” at the Golden Jubilee Pharmaceutical Conference Hall at the University Campus.

The primary objective of this Symposium was to familiarise on the updated trends, and sensitise and stimulate the young minds to bring out the best in the context of emerging paradigms in pharmaceutical sciences. The deliberations explored the new dimensions in the field of drug industry, academia, research, IPR, entrepreneurial ventures, regulatory affairs, and soft-skill management.

Also, the Symposium brought together the scholars, researchers and industrialists on a common platform to deliberate and discuss the state of the art collaborations and synergisms among several entrepreneurial ventures.

PU Dean University Instructions, A. K. Bhandari was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof Bhandari in his address deliberated on the need for collaboration between academia and industry, wherein the UIPS has made stellar contribution.

Dr Sanjit Singh Lamba, currently heading Eisai Pharmaceuticals, Vishakhapatnam, India, as its Managing Director, delivered the Key Note Lecture on ‘Emerging Trends in Pharmaceutical Industry.’ Dr Lamba highlighted the major shifts in market demands and the manufacturing strategies. He stated that India as “Mecca” of pharmaceutical industry and ranks 13th in global league.

President, IPCA Laboratories Ltd., Mumbai, Dr Anil Pareek deliberated, using several case-studies, on the using Innovation in Generic Drug Products through Industry-Academia.

Sharing through his own experiences, Managing Director & CEO Operations, Tynor Orthotics Ltd. Pushvinder Jit Singh emphasised various key factors of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Ltd. accentuated on the Strategic IPR Management practices employed contemporarily in pharmaceutical companies.

Through his highly interactive session, Adwait Date, Manager, Global Success foundation, Mumbai, dwelt upon the significance of Employability Skills EDGE and Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Chairman, UIPS Prof Bhupinder Singh Bhoop was the Conference Chair of the Symposium and Prof Renu Chadha and Prof Ranju Bansal were the Organising Secretaries.

Director NIPER, K. K. Bhutani was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function, who exhorted the delegates towards excellence in pharmaceutical research. The valedictory lecture was delivered by PU Emeritus Professor Prof Harkishan Singh. Prof Singh highlighted the importance of Pharmaceutical Research in India. In addition to scientific deliberations from noted speakers, there was a poster presentation session on four different themes where 80 scientific posters were presented by young researchers from reputed pharmaceuti.
