Ludhiana, August 11, 2016: Swaraj Division a part of the $17.8 billion Mahindra Group, has been recognised for its contribution towards the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. The company was recently awarded a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), for its valuable contribution and support towards Swachh Bharat Mission in S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali.

The Honorable Union Minister for Urban Development, Shri Venkaiah Naidu presented the recognition to Viren Popli, COO, Swaraj Division at the launch ceremony of Swachh Survekshan in New Delhi recently.

As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Swaraj Tractors has installed three mobile toilets in Valmiki and Guru Nanak Colony which has benefited nearly 1,700 people, especially women from the local community. A community toilet block has also been constructed near the company’s factory in Phase IV while two more such toilet blocks will soon be ready at Madanpur and Mohali Pind. Further, to make Mohali a litter free city, Swaraj Tractors has also installed several dustbins in public and market places across different localities.

Complimenting Swaraj for its generous contribution towards Swachh Bharat Mission, Uma Shankar Gupta, Commissioner Municipal Corporation said, “We are proud to have an organization like Swaraj in our city which has provided continuous support to this national program. I am sure this association would go a long way towards making Mohali cleaner”.

“Swaraj and the Tri-city of Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula are synonymous in a lot of ways. It is one of the largest manufacturers in the region and therefore as a ‘responsible corporate’ citizen, we are committed towards delivering prosperity to the community which forms an integral part of our existence. This also resonates with Mahindra’s Rise philosophy which emphasizes on enhancing the lives of people through the work we do”, said Viren Popli, COO - Swaraj Division.

He further added, “We intend to make Mohali and our surroundings free from open air defecation and litter. Since the start of this mission, we have spent over Rs.1.39 crore on various projects across Mohali and worked in close co-ordination with the civic authorities here. We have allocated a significant amount for this purpose in this fiscal also with an aim to make Mohali cleaner.’’

Some of the other key projects undertaken by Swaraj Tractors under its Corporate Social Responsibility umbrella include a Mahindra Cancer Care Project which provides palliative care to terminally ill patients in the Tri-city. Besides this, the company also runs a Mahindra Pride School to provide vocational education to students from economically weaker sections.
