Jalandhar, November 26, 2018: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Jalandhar received grant of 1.26 Cr under the conferment of the Star Status by DBT, Government of India.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that KMV has become the only college from Punjab to get this status in session 2018-19. KMV has become one of the 16 colleges out of all the eminent colleges of India to be awarded with this prestigious Star College Status in the year 2018. Many new equipments for world class infrastructure will be purchased under this opportunity. This status has been awarded to KMV due to its excellent performance in the teaching and learning of the Sciences. Under this scheme, science faculty will be guiding research projects to B.Sc. students and motivate them to research. Students will also get a chance to learn latest research techniques and attend conferences. Each student will be trained as a research intern. This is a golden opportunity for KMV Science students and they are motivated for the same. Along with main curriculum many new practicals, student projects, interdisciplinary projects, inter-college competitions, faculty development programmes, student-student mentoring and other extension activities are included. It is worth mentioning here that KMV was covered under Star College Scheme three years back which has been initiated by DBT to support colleges offering under graduate education in order to improve the science teaching. Under this status, KMV will get enhanced grant to improve the skills of teachers by organizing faculty training programmes, improved curriculum and emphasis on practical training of the students by providing access to specialized infrastructure and consumables. KMV has also been recently bestowed Autonomous Status under which many PG and UG Programmes have been introduced and the syllabi of older programmes have also been revised. She lauded the faculty members of science for this outstanding achievement. She appreciated the hard work which is constantly put in by faculty members and students of KMV, thereby making it worth of the title of a 'Star College'. She further maintained that enhanced grants of the UGC under the Star Status will enable KMV students to have more excellence in their learning by exposure to the best resources and opportunities. It is also worth a mention here that KMV is the only college in the region to get 1.10 crore grant under FIST (Phase II) and was among the 19 institutions across the nation to be conferred with the status of Heritage Institution in 2015, followed by the status of College with Potential for Excellence. It is also the first College of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to be awarded Kaushal Kendra- Skill Development Centre by the Government of India. The most recent achievement which is the award of Autonomous status has made KMV the first women college of Punjab to be bestowed with this status. Achievements galore for KMV indeed.
