Jalandhar, December 5, 2016: Stalking? Who represents these silent sufferers in society? The answer is no one. Largely because victims of stalkers have no idea how to deal with their situations so there is IPC 354D: Section 354D of the Indian Penal Code that makes it to count. Many a time, victims can't get the help or advice they need from the relevant authorities. And most importantly, victims of prolonged stalking are often so traumatized by their ordeal; they retreat rather than face their tormentors head-on. This section of IPC will help them to overcome with their fear or the stalkers, said Mr. Harjit Singh (IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police) during an Interactive Session with the Students of CT Public School.
The students of CT Public School had an interesting session with the Deputy Commissioner of Police on issues relating to adolescents at their premises.
He further said, “Whoever commits the offence of stalking shall be punished on first conviction with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, and shall also be liable to fine; and be punished on a second or subsequent conviction, with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, and shall also be liable to fine.”
He spoke to the children pertaining to various problems faced by adolescents and how they could approach the police to resolve their issues. The children asked questions on eve-teasing and cyber crimes and what they should in such cases.
On this occasion, S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) and Mr. Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group of Institutions) were also present .
The children also had certain queries regarding the role of police in the society and how they could assist the police in bringing a change in the society and help them to make it a better place.
The session ended with due thanks to Mr. Harjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police by the members of the management. S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) and Ms. Suman Rana (Principle, CT Public School) applauded the way the Deputy Commissioner of Police addressed the students on their issues which certainly help them to fight with such incidents of stalking in their life.
