Sports should be promoted among the youth of Punjab: Channi

Chamkaur Sahib/ Ropar, May 8, 2016: The youth of Punjab should be made to play different games compulsory so as to get his concentration towards the sports rather than drugs. Inaugurating the Sri Chamkaur Sahib Sports Tournament today, S Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of opposition, said that we have to take the youth of Punjab from drugs to sports. This is the only way, how we can channelize their energy and take their optimum use. Every village in Punjab has rural infrastructure for the promotion of sports, which can be easily undertaken by the local MLA or the Government. The Government should also promote the rural sports.

Lambasting on the SAD BJP Government Channi Said that in the ten-year rule of this party the youth of Punjab have taken to drugs. The government didn’t even bother to engage the youth in the sports. The situation today became so worse that the future of Punjab is at stake. Our youth has already been rejected by the armed forces because of the failure in physical aptitude test. Earlier Punjab had a name in the recruitment of armed forces, our youth were the first to be selected because of their fit life style but today they are out rightly rejected by the armed forces. Secondly Mr Parkash Singh Badal and S Sukhbir Singh Badal spent crores of rupees for the world Kabaddi league inviting teams from across the globe but deliberately leaving our youth in lurch. Rather they should have promoted the sorts on village level, build up grounds and provided them free sports kits.

Making an appeal to the political parties and the politicians, Channi said that all should work to engage the youth in different sports. Sports like cricket, football, Volleyball and Kabaddi are the ones which can be organized in every village of the state. We as politician should come forward and start these initiatives for the betterment of the youth. This tournament is also started by me to promote the sports in the constituency. He also appealed to the youth to be cautious from the nefarious designs of AAP, who claim to be the caretakers of the youth of Punjab. The youth of Punjab should ask them to just tell their any single initiative for the betterment of the youth in Delhi where they are having their two year rule.

Mohd Saddiq, MLA said that only congress can save the young generation of Punjab. people should wisely decide to vote for Congress in the coming vidhan sabha elections so that the future of youth is safe.

Addressing the gathering senior congress leader and Padam Shree Hans Raj Hans said that sports and music both can be taken as alternative to the drugs. The government is duty bound to promote these both but they have failed to do. The congress after forming the government will open one dedicated sports stadium in every village of the state, so as to provide better facilities and the infrastructure to the rural people.
