Kapurthala, October 2, 2014: A Special Cleanliness Campaign under `Swachh Bharat Mission’ was launched on Thursday in Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala which aims at spreading awareness among its employees and their families.

The campaign took off with administering of Cleanliness Pledge to all Officers of RCF and employees.  Thereafter, several rallies were carried out in workshop and township area which were led by RCF Officers, employees, Scouts and Guides, NCC cadets, members of several organizations and other people. The rallies marched through the Workshop and Campus area distributing hand bills, displaying banners and posters aiming to educate the employees and their families about the importance of cleanliness. Residents of township were encouraged to use eco-friendly jute bags. Special counter was set up for sale of such bags, which attracted a large number of buyers. Shopkeepers were counseled for doing away with polythene carry bags. To sustain the environment conservation, General Manager of RCF and other HODs planted saplings in a tree plantation drive in the township area.

A mega campaign has been planned under which the whole workshop and township premises will be thoroughly cleaned.  The debris and other materials scattered over the areas in and around the shops in workshop area will be sorted out and properly disposed off.  Railway Officers and staff volunteered for this activity, which took off today with great enthusiasm.

Eight teams have been set up to clean the RCF campus which encompasses around 4000 quarters, 5 schools, over a dozen parks, cluster parks, Shopping Centre, Hospital, playgrounds, Lake Complex, offices, Administrative Block etc.  Debris, dry wood, polythene, plastic waste and other objectionable in the township and eyesores etc., will be removed to make the premises clean.

Here, it is pertinent to mention that RCF has the distinction of being the first ISO-14001 certified Unit of Indian Railways in 1999 and since then it has been continuously sustaining the clean environment. Besides this, it has been conferred with prestigious Environment Management Awards, viz. GreenTech Award and Golden Peacock Award.  Also it is the first 5-S Certified Organisation over Indian Railways for better work place management.
