Ludhiana, August 24, 2016: After the issue related to duping of beneficiaries of Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana by two hospitals- Aastha Kidney Hospital in Ghumar Mandi and Garg Hospital in Jawaddi, came to light, the Punjab government has terminated the services of both the hospitals from Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry has been initiated into the matter and if the owners/doctors of the hospitals are found guilty, then further proceedings would be initiated against them.
As per the orders received from Health and Family Welfare Department Principal Secretary Mrs Vini Mahajan, Civil Surgeon Dr Renu Chhatwal informed that the department has taken this issue very seriously and that is why an inquiry has been initiated into it. She informed that for the time being, the services of both the hospitals regarding the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana have been terminated. She said that if the hospitals are found guilty in the inquiry, then the department might cancel their registration and also take legal action against them. She informed that United India Insurance, the company related to this scheme, has also paused the work of bill claims.
Mrs Vini Mahajan and Dr Renu Chhatwal informed that Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana is a very important scheme which has been started by the Punjab government for the welfare of people. And the hospitals would not be allowed to indulge in such malpractices. They also appealed to people to submit their complaints at toll free number 104 and assured that timely action would be taken.

It may be recalled here that on Tuesday, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Surjit Kumar Jyani had stated here that if any hospital empaneled under Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana dupes the beneficiaries of this government scheme, then the hospital would be removed from this scheme, legal action would be taken against the owner/doctor and the hospital’s registration would be cancelled. He had urged the beneficiaries of this scheme to submit their complaints at the toll free number 104.
While attending a function organised at a private hospital in the city here on Tuesday, when it was brought to the notice of Mr Jyani that some hospitals are duping the beneficiaries of Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana by charging money by keeping the beneficiaries in dark and later are also filing claims under this scheme, he had taken strong notice of it and clarified that there would be zero tolerance against such doctors/hospitals. He had said that if any hospital or doctor is found indulging in such illegal activity, the hospital would be removed from this scheme, strict legal action would be taken against the concerned doctor and proceedings for cancellation of hospital registration would be initiated.
Mr Jyani had said that Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana is a very important government scheme that has been started by the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government for the welfare of a large section of people and no hospital or doctor would be allowed to dupe beneficiaries. He had appealed people that if they come to know about any such incident, they should immediately bring it to the notice of Punjab government by submitting their complaint at toll free number 104 and assured that immediate action would be taken.
