Deputy CM condoles the sad demise of Mata Chand Kaur
Ludhiana, April 4, 2016: Sensation was created after the news of killing of Mata Chand Kaur widow of former Namdhari sect head Jagjit Singh was spread in and around the city.
The deceased was the mother of present Namdhari sect chief Uday Singh.
She was 88.
The incident occurred this morning at Bhaini Sahib where the sect has its headquarters. Bhaini Sahib is situated about 30 kms away from here.
Mata Chand Kaur was shot at by two unidentified motorcycle borne assailants.

The assailants fired five shots from a weapon from close range and successfully managed to escape.

The deceased was hit by two bullets. She was rushed to a hospital after occurrence of the tragic incident. She breathed her last at the hospital.

Senior police and administrative officers visited the hospital.

It may be recalled here that Mata Chand Kaur had appointed Uday Singh as head of the sect in 2012 after the death of her husband.

Meanwhile, Punjabi Sahit Akademi’s office-bearers and all the members have condemned the incident. The Akademi president Dr Sukhdev Singh has termed the incident as “cowardly act”. Those who expressed their shock over the incident included Dr S S Johl, Dr Surjit patar, Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Prof Niranjan Tasneem, Surinder Kalley, Tirlochan Lochi, Dr Gulzar Singh Pandher, Dr Gurcharan Kaur Kochhar, Surinder Rampuri, Janmeja Singh Johl and Principal Prem Singh Bajaj.

Chandigarh, April 4, 2016: Deputy Chief Minister Mr.Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Mata Chand Kaur, wife of former Namdhari head late Satguru Jagjit Singh, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants today morning. Mr. Badal said that he has given clear instructions to DGP Punjab police to nab the culprits in no time.

In his condolence message, Mr. Badal said that Mata Chand Kaur lived an exemplary life and dedicated her whole life preaching teachings of Gurbani and serving whole heartedly for the Namdhari darbar. Describing her murder as one of the most cowardly act, Mr. Badal that the culprits responsible for this heinous crime would not be spared.

Mr. Badal prayed to the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and courage to the family, nearer and dearer to bear this irreparable loss.
