Ludhiana, March 4, 2015: The six Schools for Meritorious Students will have ultra modern computer labs along with smart classes very soon. These computer labs and smart classes will be equipped with 276 desktop computers, 150 laptops, wifi connectivity, overhead projectors, besides other teaching aids. Besides this, a school magazine of these six Schools for Meritorious Students would also be launched shortly. 
This was informed by Major General (Retd) K A S Bhullar, project director of Schools for Meritorious Students, Punjab, here today. He said that these facilities would not only help the students in their studies, but would also help the teachers. All these facilities would be made available in the schools within around two months time.
Major General (Retd) Bhullar was visiting the School for Meritorious Students, here, for attending a workshop which was attended by teachers of these schools. He said that it was Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's vision that students of these six schools should be provided facilities which are much better than that of private schools.
He said that the "Society for Promotion Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab" is also trying to help the students in securing education loan from reputed banks. He said that they are also working on getting financial aid for the students through various government schemes.
For making sure that there is no shortage of staff in these schools, the District Education Officers (DEO';s) of areas in which these six schools fall, have been asked to prepare a database of teachers who are willing to provide their services in these schools. He said that media liaison officers will also be appointed in these six schools.
The Project Director said that the state government would also provide free coaching for higher education to all students studying in Schools for Meritorious Students from March 10 onwards. These students have already got admitted in these Schools after securing 80 percent marks in class 10th. Under this new programme, these students would be benefitted as the state government would impart them free coaching for higher education after class 12th.
The students would be trained for institutes such as IIT, JEE-IIT, AIIMS, NIT, BITS Pilani, AFMC Pune, CA, Law, CLAT, besides other courses along with all medical and engineering institutes successfully running in the state.
As per the recommendations of "Society for Promotion Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab", which is formed by the Punjab government, tenders were floated. Tenders of two private coaching centres-namely "Aeon Educreators" for medical and non medical and "ABC Tutorials" for commerce have been approved. He said that both "Aeon Educreators" and "ABC Tutorials" would impart coaching to students from 4 pm to 7pm daily from March 10 onwards.
He informed that out of total 297 students, 56 students are from medical, 197 of non medical and 44 of commerce streams. The private coaching institutes would impart training till June 2015 and during this time, they would conduct atleast 500 sessions and 50 tests.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included DEO (Secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal, Principal of School for Meritorious Students, Ludhiana Anup Passi, besides others.
