Inter School Declamation Contest for School students at seminar hall of DLLL&E, PU

Chandigarh, May 21, 2015: Department of Life Long Learning and Extension (DLLL&E), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh on Wednesday organised Inter School Declamation Contest for School students at the seminar hall of the DLLL&E, PU.

The theme of the Inter School Declamation Contest was “Drug Addiction/Say No to Drugs”.

The program was sponsored by Inner Wheel Club, Midtown, Chandigarh.

The competition was conducted for four categories Rural, Urban, Model and Hindi Medium School Students. As many as 40 students from different Government Schools attended the program.

On this occasion Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, Dr. N.K. Goel in his presidential remarks said that no single factor can predict whether a person will become addicted to drugs or not.

He expressed that risk for addiction is influenced by a combination of factors that include individual low self esteem, unhealthy environment, and age, generally adolescent and youth are on high risk for addiction. The more risk factors an individual has the greater the chance for taking drugs that can lead to addiction.

DLLL&E, Chairperson Mrs. Renu Gandhi said that these types of programs make students aware of the problems related to drug addiction and help them to learn the skill of decision making and say no to drugs. She expressed that the spirituality would help the youth to build their overall personality and distress his life and give him power to control himself for any addiction.

President, Inner Wheel Club, Midtown, Chandigarh Ms. Uma Gupta proposed a vote of thanks to the organiser and congratulated the winning students of different schools. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
