S.A.S Nagar (Mohali), July 21, 2016: The Punjab Education Minister, Dr.Daljit Singh Cheema today held a marathon meeting with the all District Education and Training Institutions (D.I.E.T.s), Principals of Government in service training centers, Senior lecturers and Master Resource Persons (M.R.P.) in order to ensure efficient running of training programmes for teachers so as to bring qualitative improvement in the standard of education in government schools of the state. The purpose of the meeting held at the auditorium of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) was to invite suggestions from the field for further improving the teacher training programme during new academic session.
In a statement after the meeting, Dr. Cheema said that 2 separate committees would be formed for the purpose of making regulations for D.I.E.T. funds & pondering over E.T.T. syllabi. The experts from the academic field would be included in the committee regarding syllabi. He also divulged that consideration would also be given towards forming a separate cadre of D.I.E.T.s. He further said that the subject experts of the PSEB were directed to take suggestions from the field for amendments in the books.
Disclosing more details, Dr. Cheema said that a projector and a computer would be given to all the D.I.E.T.s and G.I.S.T.s in order to make sure that the innovative methodologies are made part of the teacher training programme.
Earlier addressing the meeting, Education Minister said that teacher training occupies a very important place to achieve the targets of quality education with D.I.E.T.s and G.I.S.T.s playing a very prominent role. Furthermore, he said that whereas on one hand the department is chalking out induction training programme for newly recruited teachers, on the other hand the teachers with poor results would also be provided in service training for which a programme has been chalked out.
During the meeting Director SCERT Sukhdev Singh Kahlon and Deputy Director Dr. Ginni Duggal informed that an e-portal has been made operational to maintain better co-ordination between the D.I.E.T.s at national level. This would also ensure online supervision of D.I.E.T.s. They further apprised that soon enough, online teacher training program and certificate course would also begin along with the teacher training programmes. Informing more, they said that District Level Teacher Training Programme would commence from the month of August.
Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Mr. Pardeep Aggarwal, Director General School Education, Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol, DPI (Secondary Education), Mr. JR Mehrok, Secretary, PSEB and Subject experts of PSEB.
