Restrict use of urea- Punjab government launches awareness campaign

Chandigarh, April 13, 2015:  The Punjab government has launched a campaign to educate farmers with regard to the appropriate and respective use of fertilizers such as urea.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Agriculture Department revealed that farmers usually use urea in abundance in large quantity which is not required for the crops of wheat, Paddy and Maize, rather it is proves harmful for the  soil and is also uneconomically. The Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana has innovated a ‘ leaf colour Chart’ which depicts various shades of colours of leaves of the crop of Wheat, Paddy and  Maize and the quantity of urea required for each shade of the leaf- colour. On one side of this plastic card different shades of leaf colour are given and on the other side necessary information with regard to the usage of fertilizer.
