Ludhiana, March 31, 2018: To remain happy and contented, senior citizens should not entertain too many expectations from their children. Also to remain healthy, they should observe a regular schedule, lead active life and keep themselves busy in activity or activities of interest to them. Thus advised Padam Bhushan Dr Sardara Singh Johl, Chancellor of Central University, Bathinda while addressing as Chief Guest the Annual General Body Meeting of Senior Citizens’ Welfare Association Ludhiana (popularly known as SCWAL) in Punjab College of Technical Education, Baddowal, Ludhiana. Dr Johl was also felicitated on completing ninety years of age.
The Association also honoured for their services to humanity Dr Naurang Singh Mangat, a retired professor of Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana who is running Guru Amar Dass Apahaj Ashram for sick, disabled and abandoned persons in Sarabha village and Dr A G Thomas, who is retiring as Director from Christian Medical College & Hospital today after putting in about thirty years of meritorious service in this institution. It also felicitated its member Dr Hari Singh Brar who has been elected as Councillor of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana for second term and another member Er S S Chopra for completing ninety years of age.
Addressing the gathering, Shri S P Karkara IAS (Retd.), who has been elected President of the organization for the next two years, outlined his vision and plans for the next year. He announced that SCWAL will, besides undertaking projects for welfare of the aged; creating awareness about the problems of the elderly and trying to bridge inter-generational gap, will also take up social and environmental issues in Ludhiana city on its own and in conjunction with other NGOs in the city. About one hundred members attended the meeting.
