Chandigarh, March 17, 2017: Punjab Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh today took charge of his office at the Punjab Civil Secretariat here on Friday morning with commitments to fulfill the promises made by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of reforming power tariffs besides developing a well-planned strategy on SYL issue to safeguard the rights of the state.

Rana Gurjit Singh took charge of his office after Ardas in the presence of Advocate General Mr.Atul Nanda, MLA from Khadoor Sahib Mr.Ramanjit Singh Sikki, MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment Mr.Pargat Singh, MLA from Fatehgarh Sahib Mr.Kuljit Singh Nagra, his wife and former MLA Rana Rajbans Kaur, his sister-in-law and former MLA Mrs. Sukhjinder Kaur and a number of his supporters, family members and friends.

Interacting with media on this occasion, Rana Gurjit Singh thanked Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and party high command for posing faith on him by awarding responsibility of ministry of Irrigation and Power. He said that his top priority would be to meet the promises made by Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) in its manifesto and accordingly he would focus on developing a well-planned strategy on SYL to safeguard the water rights of the state besides adopting consumer friendly power tariff policy. “SAD-BJP government failed to fight a strong legal battle on SYL. I have called Mr. Atul Nanda, Advocate General Punjab to discuss this issue and frame a well-planned strategy to present Punjab Case during next hearing of the case in Supreme Court on March 28”, said Rana Gurjit Singh.

On Power tariff issue, Irrigation and Power Minister said that a number of industrial units from state have shifted to others parts of the country during last 10 years because of mismanaged power tariff policy of SAD-BJP government. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh and PPCC have promised in its manifesto to reform power tariffs for domestic, industrial and commercial consumers. He said that he has called a meeting with Secretary Power and Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PPCL) to discuss the issue. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, entire Congress leadership was committed to put Punjab back on the fast track of economic growth and prosperity.

Prominent amongst others, Mr. A. Venu Prasad, Principal Secretary Power, Mr. K.D. Chaudhary, CMD PPCL and Dr. Senu Duggal, Director, Information and Public Relations Department were also present on this occasion.
