Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana on Wednesday celebrates Lohri for Girls.

Ludhiana, January 13, 2016: Safety of girls is an issue that demands immediate attention and there cannot be a better occasion than Lohri to spread awareness about the same. Ramgarhia Girls College organised “Lohri Dhiyan Di” at its premises in order to emphasise that providing safety to girls is a prerequisite for the establishment of a healthy society. Better World Campaign that was initiated in the college a couple of years ago endeavours to make people vigilant about the welfare of girls and the theme for this year was “Let us make the world a safer place for girls.” While addressing the students the college Principal, Dr (Mrs) Narinder Sandhu stressed that in order to create a safer world for girls, it is important to educate not only girls but also boys. She talked about the Reproductive Rights and said that whereas on the one hand it is pertinent for girls to assert their rights over their body; on the other hand, it is required to sensitize boys about the same. S. Ranjodh Singh, President of Ramgarhia Educational Council, talked about the need to usher in an era where people are considerate and broad-minded. While talking about the welfare and upliftment of girls, he said that just as we need trees for shade and oxygen for breathing, we also need girls for the sustenance of a healthy society. S. Jagtar Singh, General Secretary of Ramgarhia Educational Council, motivated the students to stand up for their rights and refuse to bow down to societal pressures. He further added that the rising number of crimes against girls is a matter of concern and it is high time that society changed for the better and learned to respect the existence of the fair sex. The students had a gala time on the occasion. A number of items like giddha, group dance and skit were presented on the occasion. A bonfire was lit and the students danced to the beats of dhol.
