Chandigarh, August 5, 2013: Considering the performance of its youngest first time MP from Punjab Ravneet Singh Bittu in Parliament, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi today appointed him a whip of the Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha.

Immediately upon receiving a letter to this effect from  Kamal Nath, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, Ravneet Singh met Sonia Gandhi and sought her blessings. While thanking the leadership for reposing faith in him by giving this important assignment Bittu said, he would endeavour to meet their expectations. Later, Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa accompanied by all the senior Parliamentarians from Punjab congratulated him.

Sources close to the congress leadership reasoned that as a first time Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu has been foremost in drawing the attention of the Union Government towards the burning issues concerning the State of Punjab. On the one hand, he has been consistently highlighting the failures of the ruling Akali-BJP state government in the august house, on the other, having raised around 400 questions from different ministries on various issues of public importance, he had underlined that his heart lies with the common man, which is precisely the reason why the high command has chose him for this vital role.

It is pertinent to mention here that the UPA Government by taking all the allies along is trying hard to pass majority of the pending bills in this monsoon session itself, as such the importance of ensuring the attendance of its own members has been entrusted to this young turk from Punjab can very well be understood.
