Quick Indonesian presidential vote counts show close race

Jakarta, July 9 (IANS) The result of quick vote counts of Indonesian presidential election conducted by several agencies and presented by different television stations pointed to a close race between the two presidential contenders, Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto.

The result is from about 70 percent of total sample votes collected, Xinhua reported.

According to the count result at 2.30 p.m. Wednesday, Jokowi, the popular name of Jakarta governor Joko Widodo who pairs with Jusuf Kalla, took a slim lead in the race.

The quick count conducted by Polmark survey disclosed that Jokowi secured 52.96 percent votes and Prabowo obtained 47.04 percent votes with 72.75 percent of the total votes collected, Metro television said.

The count undertaken by the JSI survey revealed that Prabowo pairing with Hatta Rajasa had 50.57 percent, and Jokowi obtained 49.43 percent with 77.62 percent of the total votes collected, TV One reported.

The other count conducted by SMRC survey revealed that Jokowi secured 52.8 percent of the votes and Prabowo got 47.20 percent of votes with 81.30 percent of the total votes calculated, according to Berita Satu television.
