Punjab Unveils Unique Model Of Farm Tourism

SAS Nagar (Mohali), October 28, 2015: Punjab unveiled unique model of Farm Tourism that was providing unique opportunity to city residents and non-resident Indians to enjoy the rural environment, living in a rural home enjoying the lush green environments of farms besides tasting wood oven baked delicious Punjabi dishes.
The technical session on ‘Tourism Business Opportunities in Punjab’ deliberated in detail the uniqueness of new model that has involved rural folk in it turning rural farmers’ successful tourism operators. It was discussed that how farmers’ having farm houses were promoting farm tourism through online media booking the tourist groups and making a tourism circuit for group of foreign tourists. The scope of integrating farm tourism with pilgrimage tourism was also discussed in the session and it was felt that efforts of state government to popularize pilgrimage circuit besides memorial like Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Chapparchiri, Chhota Ghallughara and Vadda Ghallughara were attracting Punjabi Diaspora, who want to educate their children regarding the cultural heritage of their parent state.
It was also deliberated that Punjab was fast emerging as a tourism destination, registering the fastest growth rate in the country with 147% increase in domestic tourists (2008-12) and 114% increase in foreign tourists (2008-12). It is the leading destination for holiday, leisure and recreation in northern India.
The delegate opined that government of Punjab was taking initiatives to make the state as one of the finest and most accessible tourist as well as business hubs in India. Amritsar is being developed as a tourist hub by the state government with an aim to showcase its monuments (historical and religious), markets and eateries. Further, the state government has been proactively promoting heritage and pilgrimage tourism in Kapurthala, Patiala, Sri Anandpur Sahib. Various eco-tourism projects are planned to be implemented at Siswan, Mohali and Ludhiana. Multiple tourist circuits such as the religious circuit, heritage circuit are being developed in the state. The state enjoys superior connectivity with the highest road density and the 2nd highest rail density in the country.
It was informed that the State is keen to engage the private sector for Tourism, 2 international airports, three domestic airports development. There has been a continuous effort by the state government to provide smart infrastructure, skilled staff and enabling ecosystem for the investors in this sector.
