Punjab Police Conducts Major Search Operation At Modern Jail Jalandhar (At Kapurthala)

SEIZURE OF PROHIBITED & OBJECTIONABLE ARTICLES; UNDERTOOK SEARCH OPERATION JOINTLY WITH PRISON DEPARTMENT; OVER 400 POLICE PERSONNEL DEPLOYED
Jalandhar/Kapurthala, April 10, 2016: The Punjab Police today conducted a major search operation at the Modern Jail, Jalandhar (at Kapurthala) jointly with the Prison Department in the early hours of the morning (6.00 am onwards) as part of its ongoing drive to ensure that the jails in Punjab are free of objectionable/prohibited material and do not become house for drugs and organized crime.

According to the spokesman of Punjab police, the search operation was led personally by Sh. Rajinder Singh, SSP/Kapurthala and involved over 400 police personnel, including 08 Gazetted Officers (Superintendents of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police) and 10 Station House Officer (SHOs). The search operation was conducted jointly with the Prison Department, in a surprise manner, with the support and cooperation of the Jail Superintendent.

The spokesman revealed that during the search operation, 11 mobile phones, 07 SIM cards, 03 mobile chargers, 01 syringe and Silver wrapper and punnies used for consuming heroin were recovered.

A case FIR No. 65 dated 10-04-2016 u/s 52 A, Prison Act, 28 NDPS Act, PS Kotwali Kapurthala has been registered against Satnam Singh s/o Jagtar Singh r/o Bath Kalan, PS Samana, district Patiala and Rajan Kumar s/o Surinder Kumar r/o Mohalla Abaadpura, Jalandhar. Investigations are ongoing, the spokesman added.
