Punjab to launch plantation drive across the state during monsoon

Chandigarh, June 25, 2014: The Punjab Government has decided to launch a special plantation drive in the Monsoon season. Various Departments, Boards, Corporations would take part in this unique activity to plant more and more saplings across the state. Target of planting minimum 2 crore saplings in this monsoon season has been set by the state government.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Local Bodies Department said that written instructions have been issued to all the Municipal Commissioners, Regional Deputy Director, Executive Officer of urban and rural civic bodies. It has been categorically asked to take part in this state wide plantation drive by planting as many saplings as they can, in their respective area.

He said that keeping in view the global warming and degradation in environment and for sustainable development, the state government has also instructed all these institutions to generate awareness among the people regarding potential threats of the climate change and importance of forestation.

The spokesperson further said that besides this, instruction to put up ‘Welcome Sign Boards and Hoardings’ at the entry points of their respective cities was also issued.
