Punjab Govt Releases Rs 643.58 Crore As Relief For Cotton Cultivators

Chandigarh, October 1, 2015: On the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal the state government today released an amount of nearly Rs 643.58 crore as compensation for the farmers, who suffered substantial loss of cotton crop due to an attack from ‘white fly’ and other pests in nine districts of the state.  
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that around 8,30,855 acres of cotton crop has been destroyed due to pest attacks in these districts and Rs 643.58 crore has been released by the state government. Out of this Rs 195.17 crore has been released from state budget relief and Rs 448.40 crore from State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
Giving district wise details the spokesperson said that Rs 221.96 crore has been released for loss of 2,77,454 acres of crop in Bathinda district, Rs 172.82 crore for loss of crop over 2,31,738 acres in Fazilka, Rs 11.69 crore for crop loss on 14,620 acres in Faridkot district, Rs 10. 59 crore as relief for loss of crop on 13245 acres in Barnala district, Rs 116.97 crore as compensation for loss of crop on 1,52,988 acres in Mansa district, Rs 57 lakh for crop loss on 1218 acres in Moga, Rs 13.66 crore for crop loss on 20,337 acres in Sangrur, Rs 95.18 crore for crop loss on 1,19,030 acres in Sri Muktsar Sahib and Rs 9 lakh as compensation for crop loss over 225 acres of land in Ludhiana.
