PUNJAB government’s decision

Chandigarh, January 15, 2013: The Punjab Government, while dealing with the situation arisen with regard to the protection of pay on appointment from higher post to lower post, has decided that on appointment to lower post/scale carrying lower grade pay on one's request, the pay in the pay band of the government servant holding the post on regular basis, would be fixed at a state equal to the pay in the pay band drawn by him in the higher post.

Disclosing this here, an official spokesperson of the Finance Department said that consequent upon the implementation of the revised pay structure comprising grade pay and running pay band with effect from January 1, 2006 the government has clarified that on appointment to the lower post/scale carrying lower grade pay on one's own request, the pay in the pay band of the government servant holding a post on regular basis, would be fixed at a stage equal to the pay in the pay band drawn by him in the higher post. He said that however grade pay of the lower post would be granted, if the maximum of the pay band in the time scale of lower post/scale is less than his substantive pay in respect of the old/higher post, he would draw that maximum as initial pay.

He further said that where appointment to a lower post is made subject to certain terms and conditions then the pay may be fixed according to such terms and conditions. He said that this order takes place with effect from January 1, 2006.
