Punjab government issues instructions to check overstay of officers/ officials in official accommodation

Chandigarh, May 21, 2014: The Punjab Government today issued detailed instructions to direct all the officers/ officials to vacate their official accommodations timely after the expiry of allotment period or ceasing of their eligibility.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that it has come to the notice of state Government that several officers/ officials overstayed in the official accommodation allotted to them even after the lapse of their eligibility. It may be recalled that the state government had enacted Punjab Government Houses (General Pool) Amendment Rules 1983 in this regard.  In view of the judgement passed by the Supreme Court in civil Appeal No. 4064 of 2004- SD Bandi versus Divisional Traffic Officer, KSRTC and Ors, the state government has been asked to ensure strict compliance of these orders in this regard.

The spokesperson further reiterated in accordance with these instructions, rules and orders of the Apex court any allottee, who failed to vacate the official accommodation within the stipulated time period in any case, would be liable for non-disbursement of his salary besides deduction of penal rent from it.
