Punjab extends last date for seeking recommendations for Padam Awards

Chandigarh, June 26, 2014: The Punjab Government has extended the last date for seeking recommendations for the ‘Padam Awards’ from departments till July 10, 2014, which was earlier June 22, 2014. These coveted awards would be announced at the National celebrations of the Republic Day on January 26, 2015 at New Delhi.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state government said that the departments have been asked to forward the recommendations not later than July, 10 2014 to General Administration Department (Political Branch-1). He said that the recommendations thus received would further be forwarded to the Union Government for final selection. Spokesperson said that the cut-off date would be strictly adhered to as recommendations received after it, will not be considered.
The spokesperson further said that amongst the highest civilian awards of the country, the Padam Awards i.e. ‘Padam Vibushan’, ‘Padam Bhushan’ and ‘Padam Shri’ were instituted in 1954. These awards seeks to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields/disciplines such as Art, Literature & Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry etc.
