Punjab doubles pension of construction workers

Chandigarh, August 28, 2014: The Punjab Government today took a major decision for the welfare of registered Construction Workers by raising their pensions up to Rs. 20000 per annum besides facilitating them with Leave Travel Concession after every two years.
Disclosing this here today Labour Minister Chuni Lal Bhagat said that as per the decisions taken today the registered construction workers would now be entitled to get minimum pension up to Rs. 5000 and maximum pension up to Rs. 20000 raising it from earlier limit of Rs. 4000 to 10000.
He said that as per decisions taken in 14th Punjab Constructions Workers Welfare Board held here today the construction workers could also avail the facility of Leave Travel Concession for going their hometowns after every two years. The meeting also decided to increase the ex-gratia amount. Bhagat informed that ex-gratia in the case of death or 100 percent disablitiy in accident has been doubled to Rs. 2 lakh from the earlier limit of Rs. 1 lakh. He said as per the new decision this amount has been increased to Rs. 2 lakh in accidental deaths and in case of natural deaths and 100 percent disability, Rs. 1.5 lakh to be given to the aggrieved parties.
The Minister also informed that now expectant women construction workers and expectant wives of registered construction workers would get Rs. 5000 as maternity allowance for healthcare of both mother and child.
