Chandigarh, November 19, 2015: Aiming to contribute maximum to the State Exchequer, the Directorate of Lotteries Punjab is in the process to start the online Lottery Schemes, informed the spokesman from the Lotteries department. He said that it is expected that a revenue of around 150 crores would be earned from the on line lottery system.
He said that at present, department is running 4 to 5 Bumper lottery schemes in a year and 2 weekly lottery schemes (MRP 20/- and 10/-) in a week. The draws of these weekly schemes are conducted by the department every Wednesday and Friday.
He enumerated that during the financial year 2007-08 to 2014-15 gross profit earned by the Department has been over Rs. 615 crore including Rs.162.07 crore in 2007-2008, Rs.168.97 crore in 2008-2009, Rs.169.86 crore in 2009-2010, Rs.05.68 in 2010-2011, Rs.21.78 crore in 2011-12, Rs.20.84 crore in 2012-13, Rs.31.07crore in 2013-14, Rs.20.40 crore in 2014-15 and Rs.16.27 crore in 2015-16( up to October).
Divulging into the details of achievements of Punjab State Lotteries, the spokesman said that in the year 2007, 2008 and 2009 department was running 336 weekly lottery schemes in a week along with 4 bumper lottery schemes. In 2009 department launched a monthly lottery scheme value of the ticket 10/- per ticket. In 2010 Central Government notified new lottery (Regulation) rules 2010. Due to these rules department stopped the draws of all weekly lottery schemes. Due to suspension of these weekly schemes, Government of Punjab lost huge revenue. To cover this loss, Punjab Government started 2 monthly lottery schemes in year 2010. After 2010 till date, Government of Punjab is running monthly, fortnightly and weekly lottery schemes for time to time, in accordance with the lottery Regulation rules 2010.
He said that the revenue earned for the lottery goes to the consolidated fund of the State and is deployed towards the development of the State and its welfare activities.
